My main worry when dressing each morning is that my look isn’t too dressy, girly or glamourous. I favour kicked back cool, which is why most days I slope around in jeans, a tee and flats (I’m sooo creative, I know, but my clothes are clean - most of the time). My fear of being over-dressed stems from… oh, I’m not too sure, actually (I’ll ask my therapist next time) but looking like I’ve put together an ‘outfit’ is my worst nightmare. I follow Keira Knightley’s principle “I feel stupid if I’ve made an effort.” Try-hard (un-)chic is fashion’s biggest no-no, but that’s where denim comes in. Grounding every outfit with a dose of street-smarts the blue stuff’s presence in my wardrobe makes me feel comfortable and ready to go anywhere (but possibly not Claridges, unless I’m looking pretty enough to charm the doormen).

But, come Summer, cladding my legs in jeans feels wrong - and a bit sticky. Cut-offs rock and I might wear a denim mini if I’m out of town, or at the beach, but my newest love is the denim dress. Tripping into the office in a studiously co-ordinated maxi dress, clanking jewellery and matching teetering platforms isn’t cool. One of these frocks with flat leather artisan sandals and a hint of tan, is.
